Amendments

Delegates can propose changes to a paper's operative clauses whenever the chair has opened amendment submission for the committee. Sponsoring amendments has its own switch, so the chair can open or close it separately. You'll find everything in the Amendments tab of the side panel in the paper view (this needs a wider screen, see Writing & Editing Resolutions).

Proposing an amendment

Select the clause you want to change (or, if you're adding a brand-new clause, just start the amendment flow) and choose a type:

  • Change text: rewrite the clause's wording (the default option). You'll see a live diff comparing your proposed text to the original as you write.
  • Delete: propose removing the clause entirely.
  • Add: propose a brand-new clause. You'll pick where it should go (Insert at beginning or "Insert after OP.N").
  • Move: propose relocating an existing clause to a different position.

Fill in the details for your chosen type and click Propose Amendment. You're automatically recorded as the proposer and its first sponsor.

Sponsoring an amendment

Each amendment shows its support as a count like "2/5 Sponsors". Click that count to see who supports it. Other delegates can back it there by clicking Sponsor. This is only available while the chair has sponsoring open, and not on amendments that have been rejected or withdrawn.

An amendment needs support from a share of the delegations currently present (proposer plus sponsors) before it can be submitted. The number needed is shown on each amendment and in your dashboard's Majorities card. Getting a friend or two to sponsor your proposal, not just yourself, is often what pushes it over that line.

Submitting to the chair

A new amendment starts as Pending. The rest of the committee can already see it and sponsor it. Once enough delegations sponsor it, click Submit to send it to the chair. Until then the button stays greyed out and tells you how many sponsors are still missing. After submitting, the amendment shows as Submitted and the chair decides when to bring it up.

Withdrawing

If you change your mind, click Withdraw on your own amendment. This works only while it's still Pending, so before you submit it. After that only the chair can remove it.
